නැගෙනහිර වෙරළ තීරයේ සංචාරකයන්ගේ නෙත් සිත ඇඳ බැඳගත් වෙරළ තීර ගොන්නෙන් ප්‍රමුඛත්වයක් ගන්නකි නිලාවැලි වෙරළ තීරය. නිලාවැලි වෙරළට පිය මනින සංචාරකයකුට කි.මි. 2ක් ඈත දියඹේ මනරම් දූපත් පන්තියක් ඇස ගැටේ. ලංකාවේ වනජීවී අභයභූමියක් ලෙසින් නම්කොට ඇති එකම දුපත වන මෙය සුප්‍රකට පරෙවි දූපතයි ( දමිල බසින් නම් පරාමලේ).
ත්‍රිකුණාමලයටත්, නිලාවැලියටත් සංචාරය කරන බොහෝ දෙනෙක් අමතක කරන පරෙවි දූපිත නෙත් සිත් ආලෝලනය කළ හැකි අති සුන්දර ස්ථානයකි. පරෙවි දූපතට යාත්‍රා කරන සංචාරකයකුට බාහිර ලෝකයේ ප්‍රශ්න හා දුක්ඛ දෝමනස්සයන් නිමේෂයකින් පහව යන්නේ ඒ සුන්දරත්වය නිසාමය. සුදෝසුදුවන් වැල්ලෙන් දිදුලන මුහුදු වෙරළත් කොළට හුරු නිල් පැහැති කරදියත් ඔබ සිත් ඇදබැඳගන්නවා නිසැකය. දූපතේ දෙපසෙහි විශාල ගල් කඳු දෙකක් පිහිටා ඇති අතර දූපත අවට මුහුදු සීමාවද ගල්පරවලින් ගහනය. එය එසේ වුවත් දූපත අවට මුහුද නොගැඹුරු වන අතර චණ්ඩ ස්වරූපයක්ද නොඋසුලයි. දූපතේ නැගෙනහිර භාගයේ ඇති බොක්කක හැඩති තටාකය ස්නානයට අතිශයින්ම යෝග්‍යය. දූපත පුරා විසිර පවතින විසිතුරු තුරුගොමු සහ සිප්පි කටු පරෙවි දූපතට ගෙන එන්නේ ඉමිහිරි විචිත්‍රත්වයකි.

පිවිසෙන හැටි
ත්‍රිකුණාමල නගරයේ සිට මුලතීව් දක්වා දිවෙන මාර්ගයේ කි.මි. 12ක් පමණ ගමන් කළ තැන නිලාවැලිය හමුවේ. පාරේ දකුණු අත පස පොදු වෙරළ තීරයට ප්‍රවේශ මාරගය සලකුණු කළ පුවරුවක් සවි කොට තිබේ. එම මාර්ගයේ මීටර 200ක් පමණ ගමන් කළ පසු ඔබට නිලාවැලි වෙරළ තීරයට පිවිසිය හැක. බෝට්ටු පදවන්නන් සාමන්‍යයෙන් රුපියල් 2,500ක පමණ මුදලකට ඔබව (එක් කන්ඩායමකටා පරෙවි දූපතට ගොඩබස්වනු ඇත. එම මුදල තරමක් අධික වුවද ඔබ පරෙවි දූපතට ගියහොත් ඒ ගැන පසු නොතැවෙනු ඇත. ඕනෑ තරම් කාලයක් දූපතේ ගත කර බෝට්ටු පදවන්නාට දුරකතන ඇමැතුමක් දී ඔහුව ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට ඔහු හා කතිකා කරගන්න.

නිලාවැලි වෙරළ තීරය, තිරියාය පුදබිම, කන්නියා උණු වතුර ලිං, වෙල්ගම් රජමහා විහාරය, ත්‍රිකුණාමලය ෆ්‍රෙඩ්රික් කොටුව, තිරුකෝණෙස්වරම් කෝවිල යනාදිය මේ ප්‍රදේශයේ සැරිසරන ඔබට ආකර්ෂණීය වනු නොඅනුමානය.

නැගෙනහිර ත්‍රස්ත ග්‍රහණයෙන් මුදවා ගැනීමත් සමඟම සංචාරක නවාතැන් රැසක් මේ ප්‍රදේශය පුරා හතු පිපෙන්නාක් මෙන් බිහි වී ඇත. මෙහි විශේෂත්වය නම් ඔබේ පසුම්බියට සරිලන මිලකට නවාතැනක් සොයාගැනීම එතරම්ම අපහසු නොවීමයි. ත්‍රිකුණාමල නගරය ආශ්‍රිතව නවාතැන්පොලවල් සොයා ගැනීම පහසුය. කන්තලේ සිට ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දක්වා ඇදෙනවිට ආන්දන්කුලම ප්‍රදේශයේ සිට නිවාස රැසකම නවාතැන් පහසුකම් ඇත යනුවෙන් බෝඩ් එල්ලා ඇත. මේවා දෛනික පදනමින් කුලියට ගත හැක. අප වරක් නතරවූ ත්‍රිකුණාමල අනුරාධපුර මාර්ගයේ නිවස්නය ඉතා අගනා නවාතැනක් විය. කොළඹ ත්‍රිකුණාමල මාර්ගයේ ත්‍රිකුණාමලයට මදක් මත්තෙන් පිහිටි හොටෙල් ඔෂීන් ආදි හෝටල් රැසක්ද, විශ්‍රාම ශාලා කීපයක්ද සොයා ගත හැකිය. ඉන් එක් විශ්‍රාම ශාලාවක් ත්‍රිකුණාමල කොටුවට යාබදව පිහිටා ඇත. ත්‍රිකුණාමල නගරයේ සිට කි.මි.13ක් දුරින් වූ වෙල්ගම් විහාරයේ නොමිලේ නැවතීමට විශ්‍රාම ශාලවක් ඇති බවත් මට සැලවිය. තවද නිලාවැලි නගරය දෙසට වන්නට තරමක් මිල අධික එහෙත් සුඛෝපභෝගී නවාතැන්පලවල් ඔබට පහසුවෙන්ම සොයාගත හැකිය.

Nilaveli is one of the most pristine beach strips in the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka. Any visitor to this splendorous beach will see a few small islands standing firm couple of kilometers into the ocean. These are the Pigeon's Island, Sri Lanka's only island which has been proclaimed as a Wildlife Reserve.
A place mostly forgotten by visitors to Trincomalee & Nilaveli, Pigeon's Island is a mesmerizing place full of beautiful blue waters and white sands as well as the eye catching trees and shells scattered around the vicinity. A traveler is likely to forget his/her problems from the external environs upon landing to the shores of this colorful island which is surrounded by underwater boulders. Despite this the sea is relatively calm and isn't that deep either. On the Eastern side of the island there is a small bay which is ideal for sea bathing.

How to get there
Travel north from Trincomalee on the Mullaitivu road. After about 12km you will reach the township of Nilaveli. There is a billboard on the right hand side of the road welcoming you to Nilaveli beach. Travel along the small road on the right hand side for about 200m till you get to the beach. Boat operators are available in the beach and they will offer you round trips to the Pigeon's Island for approx Rs. 2,500 (for a group). I suggest you go to the island spend several hours and call back the operator when you have had enough, that way you will spend a terrific time while getting value for the money you speng.

Nilaveli beach, Thiriyaya temple, Kanniya hot water springs, Velgam Raja Maha Viharaya, Thirukoneswaram Kovil, Fort Frederick are places that would catch your eye in the vicinity.

Facilities
Since the East was liberated from the terrorists many places that offer overnight accomodations have popped up across the region. And it’s easy to find accommodation in Trincomalee to any budget plan. On your way from Kantale to Trincomalee, once you pass Andankulam area you will see plenty of boards hung on the road side with the message “Accommodations available”. You can rent them out on a daily basis. The place we once stayed over in the Trincomalee-Anuradhapura road was very good. Like Hotel Oshin, located few miles before Trincomalee town on the A6 road, there are many other hotel facilities available. One can find several
Wishrama Shala in Trinco and one such place is located near the fort itself. I have heard that one can get accomodation for free at the
Welgam Wehera Wishrama Shala which is located 13km away from the town. There are some high-end luxurious accommodations along the beach in Nilaveli if you prefer more comfort.
