බුදුරුවයාය, Buduruwayaya

අඹන් ගඟ ආශ්‍රිතව පිහිටා ඇති සුවිශේෂීම සිද්ධස්ථානයක් ලෙස බුදුරුවයාය හඳුන්වා දිය හැක. පිහිටි ගලේ නෙලන ලද රියන් 21ක් දිගැති සැතපෙන පිළිමවහන්සේ නමක් වැඩසිටීම මෙහි විශේෂත්වයයි. මෙම පිළිමය පොළොන්නරුවේ ගල් විහාරයේ සැතපෙන පිළිමයට බෙහෙවින් සමානකම් දක්වයි. මෙම පිළිමයට අමතරව සිරිපතුල් ගල් ආදී කොට ඇති විවිධ නටඹුන් කීපයක්ම අවට ප්‍රදේශයෙන් දැකිය හැක. බුදුරුවයාය එක් අන්තයකින් වස්ගමුව ජාතික වනෝද්‍යානයට මායිම්ව ඇති අතර අඹන් ගං කොමලියගේ අතු ගංගාවක් වූ හීරටිය ඔය කඩිමුඩියේ ගලාබසින සුන්දර නාදය දෙසවන් පිනවයි. වස්ගමුව වනාන්තරය බුදුරුවයායෙන් වෙන් කරමින් තනා ඇති අලි වැට හේතුවෙන් හීරටිය ඔය නැරඹීමේ වාසනාව නම් අපට හිමි නොවේ. අඹන් ගඟේ හඬත්, අලි, කොටි, වලස්සු ගහන වස්ගමුවේ අසිරියත් බුදුරුවයායේ සුන්දරත්වය වඩ වඩාත් ඔප් නංවයි. දඹුල්ල, රිවස්ටන් ප්‍රදේශ නැරඹීමට එන සංචාරකයන්ටත්, පොළොන්නරුවට විකල්ප මාර්ගයකින් ලඟා වීමට කැමැති සංචාරකයන්ටත් මෙය ආකර්ෂණීය මග නැවතුමක් වනු නිසැකය.

පිවිසෙන හැටි...

මොරගහකන්ද ව්‍යාපෘතිය හේතුවෙන් බුදුරුවයාය විහාරස්ථානයට ලඟා විය හැකි මාර්ග ඉතා හොඳ තත්ත්වයක පවතී. දඹුල්ලෙන්, අති රමණීය කන්ඩලම පාර ඔස්සේ බකමූණ දක්වා පැමිණ පල්ලේගම, හෙට්ටිපොල පාරේ කි.මි. 6ක් පමණ ගිය තැන කුඹුරක් මැද වම්පසට වූ කුඩා පාරක හැරී පුංචි දුරක් ගිය තැන මෙම විහාරය පිහිටා ඇත. ඊට අදාල නාම පුවරු පාරේම සවි කර තිබෙන නිසා හඳුනාගැනීම පහසුය. නමුත් මෙම මාර්ගයන් අලුතින්ම ඉදි කල ඒවා නිසාවෙන් බොහෝ සිතියම්වල දක්නට නොලැබීම කණගාටුවට කරුණකි. දඹුල්ල - පල්ලේගම මාර්ගය ඉතාමත්ම දැකුම්කළු දසුන්වලින් පිරි මනාව නිමැවූ හොඳ තත්ත්වයේ පාරකි. එහෙයින් ඔබ බුදුරුවයාය මෙන්ම බුදුරුවයායට යන ගමනත් රසවිඳිනු නිසැකය.

ලඟ පාත වෙනත් ආකර්ෂණයන්...

 වස්ගමුව වනාන්තරය මධ්‍යයේ මාළිගාවක නටඹුන් ඇති බවට වාර්තා පළ වේ. මෙය මහසෙන් රජතුමා විසින් පරිහරණය කළ බව ප්‍රකට මතයයි. තවද අඹන් ගඟේ පටුම ස්ථානය වන කුමාර ඇල්ලද මනරම් දියඇල්ලක් බව දුටුවන් පවසති. මෙම කුමාර ඇල්ල හරහා මහසෙන් නිරිඳුන් අඹන් ගඟ තරණය කළ බවට ජනප්‍රවාදයක්ද පවතී. ඇලහැර සිට කි.මි.4ක දුරින් පිහිටි ඔරු බැඳි සියඹලාව නම් ග්‍රාමයේ සුවිශේෂී සියඹලා රුකක් දැකිය හැකිය. ක්‍රි.ව. 3වන සියවසේදී මහසෙන් රජතුමා යෝධ ඇල ඔස්සේ පැමිණ ඔරුව බඳින ලද වෘක්ෂය මෙය බවට ජනප්‍රවාදයක් පවතී.

පහසුකම්...

බුදුරුවයායට ආසන්නතම ඉන්ධන පිරවුම්හල් ඇලහැර, දඹුල්ල සහ ගිරිතලේ යන නගරවල පිහිටා ඇත. මේ ප්‍රදේශයේ නවාතැන් පහසුකම් විරලය. නමුත් ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් හා කතා බහ කිරීමෙන් සරල පන්නයේ නවාතැනක් සොයා ගත හැකිය. ඇලහැර, දඹුල්ල, ගිරිතලේ, පොළොන්නරුව සහ රිවස්ටන් යන අවට ප්‍රදේශ වල නම් නවාතැන් එමටය. මෙම ස්ථානයට ලඟම රෝහල ඇත්තේ දඹුල්ලේයි.



Buduruwayaya is one of the major tourist attraction along the Amban Ganga, with its statue of Lord Buddha delicately cut out on solid rock.  Many scholars draw comparisons between this statue and one of the statues seen at Polonnaruwa Rock Temple (Gal Viharaya). Besides the statue there are various ruins scattered around the vicinity which include Siripathul stones among other important artifacts. On one side Buduruwayaya is bordered by the Wasgamuwa Strict Natural Reserve. The serene sound of Heeratiya Oya, one of the tributaries of Amban Ganga cascading rapidly through the forest could be heard from the location. Unfortunately the elephant fence that divides the Wasgamuwa reserve from Buduruwayaya beholds us from having a glance at Heeratiya Oya. This elegant sound and the natural beauty of Wasgamuwa which is filled with various types of animals further enhances the beauty of Buduruwayaya. This would be the perfect transit point for those who are visiting Dambulla or Rewestern, or the travellers who are interested in reaching Polonnaruwa using an alternative route rather than the traditional road via Habarana.

How to get there...

Due to the Moragahakanda project the roads to Buduruwayaya have been newly built and are in excellent condition. From Dambulla one must take the splendorous road to Bakamoona, from here the road to Pallegama & Hettipola must be taken. After 6kms in this road a sign board could be seen in the middle of a paddy field indicating a left turn to a small gravel road which leads to Buduruwayaya. Unfortunately these roads are seldom seen in maps since these roads were built very recently. Since the Dambulla-Pallegama road is a well built and beautiful road with many sceneries you will definitely enjoy the journey to Buduruwayaya as much as Buduruwayaya itself.

Nearby attractions...

There are reports of ruins of a palace in the middle of Wasgamuwa reserve which is believed to have been used by King Mahasen. Besides the narrowest point of Amban Ganga is within the Wasgamuwa reserve and is named Kumara Ella, it is believed that King Mahasen has crossed Amban Ganga through this enchanting waterfall. A special Tamarind tree could be seen in a village called Oru Bendi Siyambalawa, 4kms away from Elahera. The legend has it that King Mahasen tied his boat to this Tamarind tree in 3rd century AD in his journeys through the Giant Canal (Yoda Ela).

The nearest filling stations to Buduruwayaya are located in Elahera, Dambulla & Giritale. Accomodations are rare in this region. However you will be able to come up with something after discussing with the villagers of the region. There are accomodations available in places such as Elahera, Dambulla, Giritale, Polonnaruwa & Rewestern. The closest hospital to Buduruwayaya is located in Dambulla.
